Meet The Board
A Note From Our Founder:
Little Lanterns began with my son, Colin. He spent the first three months of his life in the NICU, surrounded by wires, monitors, and uncertainty. As a mother, I wanted more than just medical care. I wanted him to feel comforted, supported, and seen. I quickly realized how much a thoughtfully chosen toy or sensory item could make a difference, not just for a baby’s development, but for a parent’s heart.
With a professional background in non-profit development and years of experience supporting mission-driven work, I felt called to do something more. I knew how to build meaningful programs, how to connect with communities, and how to turn compassion into action. So, I combined my personal journey with my professional passion, and Little Lanterns was born.
Today, we serve children in NICUs, PICUs, and early intervention programs by providing enriching toys and sensory tools that support both development and emotional well-being. Every toy we deliver is a small act of hope—and a reminder to families that they are not alone.
I’m honored to work alongside a volunteer board of individuals who care deeply and believe in the healing power of play. Together, we are lighting the way for little ones in their hardest moments.
With gratitude,
Megg Wallen

Brigid Sterwerf
I am the Finance Director of another non-profit organization and bring over a decade of experience in mission-driven work to my role on the Little Lanterns Board of Directors. I was drawn to Little Lanterns not only because of its beautiful mission — providing enriching toys to babies in the NICU — but also because of the passion and heart behind it. I have deep respect and admiration for the founder, Megg, whose vision and compassion inspired me to get involved. As a mother and advocate for children, I believe in the power of small, thoughtful interventions to bring light and comfort during difficult times. Through my work on the board, I am honored to support NICU families and help grow the impact of this meaningful organization.
Jessica Schneider
I joined the board of this incredible organization because supporting children with sensory and medical needs is deeply personal to me. With 8 years of experience working hands on with children that have sensory challenges, I’ve seen first-hand how comforting items and intentional play can make a real difference. I’ve also had the privilege of watching my friend Megg walk through her journey with her son, Colin—whose strength and story inspired this mission. Being part of a team that brings comfort and joy to babies and families in the NICU and PICU is an honor close to my heart.
